Privacy policy

Short version: MapAnimate has no accounts. Your routes, GPX files, photos, projects and videos stay on your computer. Google cookies (visit statistics and ads on the website) are only set if you allow them.

What stays on your device

Projects (routes, signs, settings and the photos, music and voice recordings you add) are stored in your browser's IndexedDB storage. Videos are encoded in your browser and saved straight to your computer. None of this is sent to us. When you record a voice-over, your browser asks before it uses the microphone, and the recording stays in your browser. Clearing your browser's site data deletes your projects, so download a project file if you want a backup.

Services your browser connects to

To draw maps and search for places, your browser loads data directly from these services. Like any website, they receive your IP address and which map areas or search terms are requested, and handle that under their own privacy policies:

• OpenFreeMap (map tiles and fonts)
• EOX IT Services (Sentinel-2 cloudless satellite imagery, only when using the Satellite style)
• Amazon Web Services (Terrain Tiles elevation data, when hill shading or 3D mountains are on)
• Photon by Komoot (place search, only when you search)
• FOSSGIS e.V. routing servers (the points of a leg, only for legs set to follow roads)
• Google Fonts (web fonts)

Hosting and statistics

Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page, time, browser) for security and troubleshooting, kept for a short period.

We use Google Analytics to count visits, see which pages and features are used (for example how many videos are exported, in which format) and where visitors come from. It receives your IP address, browser details and the pages you view; it never receives your routes, files or videos. Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited (in the EEA, UK and Switzerland) or Google LLC.

Advertising

Some pages of the website show ads from Google AdSense. There are never ads in the editor or in your videos. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, measure them and, if you allow it, personalise them based on your visits to this and other websites. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and turn off personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings.

Cookies and your choice

Google's cookies are only set after you accept them in the banner we show on your first visit. Until then, and if you decline, Google receives only cookieless signals without identifiers. The editor itself needs no cookies: your projects are kept in your browser's storage, which is not used for tracking. You can change your choice at any time: cookie settings.
